Thrift Flipping
How to customize your clothes
As the world sits in quarantine at home a majority of people have found themselves spending hours and hours on the infamous social media app TikTok. Videos of people finding trendy outfits at Walmart have been trending tremendously in these dire times. Additionally, girls finding old pieces of clothing in their wardrobe or even their parents and altering them have been blowing up on everyone’s For You Page. With the massive trend of wearing vintage clothes and accessories now a day, up-cycling has become the newest trend.
Melanie Locke, a Youtuber popular for her clothing hauls and life hacks, has been showing her loyal fans how to thrift flip since the beginning of this year. In one of her most seen videos with over 400k views, Locke dives into ten ways you could easily up-cycle old pieces from your wardrobe.
Locke stated in her video that clothes she thrifts just need so “sprucing up sometimes”. She takes her viewers through ten ways to easily alter clothing so that it can fit you better and also be personalized to your own liking. Similar to Locke, I have always found myself reworking clothes that I pick up from the thrift store, or simply making things from scratch.
During quarantine I have found myself embroidering numerous old sweatshirts I had that have been laying around my house.
At the end of the day, you don’t necessarily need to be crafty and a famous fashion designer. With the help of a pair of scissors, a ruler, chalk, and maybe even a crafting cutting board, anyone is able to be their own unique fashionista.
